Home runs from two Tigers rookies in the top of the ninth lifted Detroit to a 5-4 victory over the Dodgers yesterday. Kerry Carpenter’s lead-off blast tied the contest. Ryan Kreidler’s first major league homer was the winning blow. Detroit got earlier home runs from Spencer Torkelson and Eric Haase.

The Tigers have today off, and open a series at Kansas City tomorrow night. Joey Wentz will start against Daniel Lynch. Coverage begins at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit has released starting pitcher Michael Pineda. Pineda was nearing the end of a one-year contract, but was sidelined for much of the season with injuries, and had struggled recently. The club designated him for assignment a few days ago. After clearing waivers, they elected to release him. As a free agent, Pineda can sign with any team, but would not be eligible for post-season play.

The Brewers’ fade continued with an 8-4 loss to the Rockies yesterday. Eric Lauer didn’t last through the third inning, and was charged with seven runs. He left the game with a sore elbow, and will be examined today. Milwaukee’s scoring came late in the game, with help from solo home runs from Andrew McCutcheon and Luis Urías in the ninth inning.

The Brewers host the Giants tonight. Corbin Burnes will start against Scott Alexander.
