Fast Pitch Softball

In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League play last evening…
• Superior Service downed Superior National Bank 9-5. Isabelle Cleary was the winning pitcher, and had three hits. Milly Loukus had a double and two singles for Superior Service. For SNB, Larissa Anderson, Morgan Erkkila and Rachel Kinnunen each had two doubles.
• JB’s Sales and Service got past Gold Standard 4-2. Stella Soumis struck out 13 to get the win for JB’s. Lucy Biekkola had a triple and a single and Lexie Burns had a triple. Payton Goldsworthy struck out 10 for Gold Standard.

MLB

The Tigers grabbed an early lead, and held on to shade the Guardians 5-4 last night. Matt Vierling blasted a two-run homer, and Andy Ibáñez hit a solo shot in the eighth that turned out to be the winning run. Reese Olson held Cleveland to three runs over six innings.

The Tigers host the Guardians again today. Jack Flaherty will start against Spencer Howard. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers thumped the Pirates 9-0 last evening. Tobias Myers scattered four hits over eight innings. Rhys Hoskins and Willy Adames homered. Adames and Sal Frelick each had three hits.

The Brewers entertain the Pirates again this afternoon. Aaron Civale will pitch against Paul Skenes.

From the “if it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all” category, Milwaukee pitcher D.L. Hall was supposed to rejoin the team after one final rehab start with Triple-A Nashville Tuesday. During the game, Hall was struck by a batted ball. He’ll miss another three to 10 days, after sitting out more than two months because of a knee problem.

Fishing

The annual CLK Rotary Club Fishing Tournament will be held Saturday on Lake Superior. Participants can launch from Lac La Belle, Eagle Harbor or Big Traverse. Fishing will be open from 6 am until 3 pm. Registration and the rules meeting will take place tomorrow at 6 pm at the Siskiwit Reception Hall in Calumet.
