The Detroit Tigers’ offensive woes continued yesterday, with a 6-0 loss to the Oakland Athletics. Francisco Liriano kept it close for a while, giving up two runs over five innings. Oakland added two off Daniel Stumpf in the seventh inning, and two more off Joe Jiménez in the eighth.
After scoring just one run in their three games at Oakland, the Tigers open a series against the Angels in Los Angeles tonight. Matthew Boyd will start against Nick Tropeano. Pregame coverage begins at 9:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Milwaukee Brewers extended their game with a ninth inning rally, but eventually lost to the Colorado Rockies 5-4 in 11 innings yesterday. The Crew took an early lead with a Travis Shaw solo homer in the second inning. Colorado surged ahead when Trevor Story blasted a three-run shot off Wade Miley in the fifth. The Rockies added an insurance run in the top of the ninth, but the Brewers tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run by Mike Moustakas, an RBI double by Orlando Arcia, and a wild pitch that brought Erik Kratz home from third base. Nolan Arenado’s homer in the top of the 11th off Corey Knebel won it for Colorado.
The Brewers have today off, and host the San Diego Padres tomorrow night. Chase Anderson will pitch against Clayton Richard.
Milwaukee added some pitching depth yesterday by claiming Jordan Lyles off waivers from the San Diego Padres. Lyles can start, or work out of the bullpen.
