Tigers’ Offense Remains Quiet – Sunday Sports Wrap

At the annual U.P. Football All Star Game Saturday, the Team Red defeated Team Black 49-25. Local players involved included Danny Marcotte from Lake Linden-Hubbell and Easton Legault from Ontonagon on Team Red. Alan Bjorn, Cam Anderson, Travis Eck and Travis Hyrkas from Calumet, Gabe Popko and Sam Roberts from Lake Linden-Hubbell, Wyatt Jenkins from Houghton, and Redd Strong from Ontonagon suited up for Team Black.

MLB

The Tigers’ offense continued to struggle Saturday in a 5-1 loss to the White Sox. Detroit collected just five hits, and was held off the scoreboard until Mark Canha’s groundout plated Matt Vierling in the eighth inning. Kenta Maeda left in the fifth inning, after allowing three runs on eight hits. In their last six games, the Bengals have scored just six runs.

The Tigers host the White Sox this afternoon. Reese Olson will start against Jonathan Cannon. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers dropped their third straight game Saturday, falling 6-4 to the Padres. All of Milwaukee’s runs came on a Brice Turang grand slam in the ninth inning. Carlos Rodriguez had another short start, leaving after allowing four runs in the fourth inning.

The Brewers play at San Diego again today. Tobias Myers will pitch against Michael King.

NHL

The Stanley Cup will be decided Monday night, as the Panthers host the Oilers. Florida won the first three games of the series. Edmonton has taken the last three.
