MLB
The Detroit Tigers gave up five home runs, as they fell to the Texas Rangers 10-5 on Saturday. Three of the blasts came of beleaguered starter Mike Pelfrey, who gave up five runs before leaving with nobody out in the sixth. Pelfrey did not take the loss. That went to Kyle Ryan, who relieved Pelfrey with the score tied, and was charged with two runs while recording only one out. Ian Kinsler homered for Detroit, and Miguel Cabrera broke out of a slump with four hits.
The Tigers have lost five in a row, and will wrap up that home set against the Rangers this afternoon. Justin Verlander will start against Martin Perez. Hear the first pitch at 1:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
The Milwaukee Brewers exploded for seven runs in the top of the 10th inning, and defeated the Cincinnati Reds 13-7 Saturday. Aaron Hill hit three of the five Milwaukee homers in the game. His solo shot in the eighth inning tied it, and his grand slam was the big blow in the 10th. Ryan Braun and Jonathan Lucroy also went deep. Milwaukee starter Jimmy Nelson struggled, giving up five runs through five innings.
The Brewers conclude that series in Cincinnati this afternoon. Junior Guerra will pitch against John Lamb.
