MLB
The Detroit Tigers’ late comeback fell short, as they lost to the Chicago White Sox 6-5 yesterday. Jordan Zimmermann struggled, giving up two runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings. Detroit picked up three in the third, on RBI singles by José Iglesias and Nicholas Castellanos. In the bottom of the ninth, the Tigers loaded the bases. One run scored on a Mikie Mahtook fielder’s choice. Another came home on a Grayson Greiner single, but Victor Reyes flied out to center field to end the game.

The Tigers begin a series against the Twins in Minnesota tonight. Francisco Liriano will start against Ervin Santana. Pregame coverage begins at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit will finish the season without catcher John Hicks. He’ll need surgery to correct the groin injury that’s forced him to the sideline. The Tigers have also placed pitcher Artie Lewicki on the disabled list with elbow inflammation. Zac Reininger has been called up.

The Chicago Cubs took a quick lead, and cruised past the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 yesterday. Junior Guerra gave up a two-run homer to Anthony Rizzo in the first inning. He didn’t make it through the fourth, and was charged with seven runs.

The Brewers have today off, and begin a set at St. Louis tomorrow night. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Jack Flaherty.

Ryan Braun left the game after suffering a rib injury while attempting to make a sliding catch in the outfield. He’s considered day to day. Catcher Manny Piña hurt his shoulder in a baserunning collision. He’ll be examined today.

Hope that Brewers’ starter Jimmy Nelson might return for the stretch run pretty much ended yesterday, when team officials said the pace of his rehab made it unlikely. Nelson is recovering from shoulder surgery.

Twilight League
Superior National Bank-Stanton will try to wrap up the Copper Country Twilight League tournament title tonight. Stanton will face Wolverine-Orbit at 6:15 at the Wolverine field. SNB won the opening game of the best-of-three series Tuesday evening by a score of 3-1. Our broadcast coverage will begin at 6:00 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

Our high school football coverage begins a week from tomorrow, as Calumet visits the Gogebic Miners. Hear the broadcast on KBear 102.3, and check our football broadcast schedule at KBear102.com.
