Tigers’ Late Surge Falls Short – Saturday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Detroit Tigers’ late comeback fell short, as they lost to the Texas Rangers 5-4 last night. Tyler Alexander pitched into the sixth inning, giving up four runs on 10 hits. After taking a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Detroit was blanked until Miguel Cabrera singled home a run in the eighth. Travis Demeritte scored on a Niko Goodrum single in the ninth, and JaCoby Jones scored on a wild pitch, but Jeimer Candelario’s groundout with runners at second and third ended the threat.

The Tigers continue that series against the Rangers in Texas tonight. Matthew Boyd will pitch against Adrian Sampson. Pregame coverage starts at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

In his Tigers debut, Demeritte tripled, and walked twice.

Zach Davies struggled again, as the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Chicago Cubs 6-2 yesterday. Davies lasted just four innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, including two home runs. Ryan Braun homered for the Crew.

The Brewers continue that series in Chicago this afternoon. Gio Gonzales will start against Cole Hamels.
