Tigers Late Comeback Falls Short – Wednesday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Tigers’ late comeback fell short in an 11-10 loss to the Royals last night. Starter Tarik Skubal was ripped for seven runs over four innings. Detroit hung in, though, with help from two Spencer Torkelson home runs. Trailing by five entering the top of the ninth, Detroit plated four runs to close the gap. With runners on first and third, Riley Greene lined out to center field to end the game.

The Tigers visit the Royals again tonight. Eduardo Rodriguez will start against Ryan Yarbrough. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers couldn’t climb out of an early hole, and lost to the Phillies 4-3 last evening. Julio Teheran took the loss, giving up single runs in the first, second, third and fifth innings.

The Brewers visit the Phillies again tonight. Colin Rae will pitch against Cristopher Sanchez.

In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League play tonight…
• At the Bone Yard in Lake Linden, Superior Service takes on REL at 5:30, and Gold Standard faces Tervo Agency at 7:15.
• At the Chassell field, Superior National Bank meets JB’s at 7:15.

Slow Pitch Softball

In Copper Country Slow Pitch Softball League action tonight…
• At Miller Memorial Field in Laurium, Bucko’s/Labatts plays Superior Lube at 6:15, then takes on Downtowner Two at 7:30.
• At the Hancock Driving Park, A and S Industrial/Loukus Tech plays Koppers at 6:15, then faces Amy J’s at 7:30.

Golf

The Kermit’s Keweenaw Kids Golf Outing will be held Saturday at Sandy Pebbles Golf Course. The event is a 3-person, 18 hole scramble. The cost is $40 per golfer, or $120 per team. Registration opens at 9:30, with a shotgun start at 10. A picnic style lunch will be served following the event, which features games and contest holes.

All proceeds will benefit the Kermit’s Keweenaw Kids program, which provides youth recreation and employment opportunities to Keweenaw County Youth.
