The Tigers opened up a big lead, and held on to beat the Twins 9-5 last night. Detroit pounded out 17 hits – Miguel Cabrera, Matt Vierling, Eric Haase and Zach McInstry each had three. Spencer Torkelson blasted two home runs. Still, Minnesota threatened in the ninth, scoring a run off Trey Wingenter, who gave way to José Cisnero with two outs and the bases loaded. Cisnero struck out Carlos Correa on a 3-2 pitch to earn the save.
The Tigers host the Twins again this afternoon. Reese Olson will pitch against Kenta Maeda. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Former Tigers starter Michael Lorenzen threw a no-hitter last night, as the Phillies blanked the Nationals 7-0. Lorenzen tossed 124 pitches. struck out five, and walked four.
The Brewers scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning, and salvaged a 7-6 win over the Rockies yesterday. Colorado opened an early lead with four runs of Adrian Houser in the top of the fourth inning. Milwaukee responded with three in the bottom of the fourth, and two more in the fifth, with help from homers by Willy Adames and Andruw Monasterio. After scoring once in the seventh to tie the game, Colorado plated the go-ahead run off Bryce Wilson on the top of the 10th. Milwaukee re-tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a ground-rule double by Mark Canha. Canha scored the game-winner when Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar’s throw on an infield grounder by Monasterio skipped past the first baseman.
The Brewers have today off, and visit the White Sox tomorrow night. Corbin Burnes will start against Michael Kopech.
The Reds and Cubs lost, so Milwaukee now leads Cincinnati and Chicago by two-and-a-half games in the National League Central Division.

NFL
There’s still no signature on the contract between the Lions and new backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, but details of the deal have leaked out. Bridgewater will make at least $2.5 million, and as much as $5 million, on a one-year pact. Team officials say it could be next week before it’s all official. Bridgewater earned $6.5 million last year as a backup with the Dolphins.
Fishing
The annual Knights of Columbus fishing tournament will be held Saturday on Torch Lake and Rice Lake. The entry fee for adults is $20, with three places to the heaviest single fish of any kind. Kids 16 and younger under are free, with five places for the heaviest fish, plus a prize for all entered youth. Register at the Lake Linden or Rice Lake boat landings Saturday morning between 7 and 9. Fishing will be open from 8-2. The awards ceremony will take place at the Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsmen’s Club at 3.
