MLB – Tigers Implode in 6th
Buck Farmer didn’t allow a hit through five innings, but the Cincinnati Reds erupted for 10 runs in the sixth, and pounded the Detroit Tigers 12-5 last night. Detroit led 5-0 when the meltdown started, powered by first-inning home runs by J.D. Martinez and Nick Castellanos. Cincinnati sent 14 men to the plate in the sixth inning against Farmer, Al Alburquerque, Tom Gorzelanny, and Neftali Feliz. Game details are here.

NFL – Nelson Out for Season
An MRI has confirmed that Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson sustained what the team is calling a “significant” injury to his knee in Sunday’s exhibition game. He will miss the entire season.
MTU Football Scrimmage Tonight
The Michigan Tech football team will hold a public scrimmage tonight. Kickoff is at 7:00 at Sherman Field. There’s no charge to attend.
High School Volleyball Today
The Houghton High School volleyball team competes at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational today.
Forgotten Eagles Golf Scramble Saturday
The Forgotten Eagles will hold a golf outing Saturday at the Calumet Golf Club. The two-person, 18-hole scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 10:00. The cost is $25.00 per person, which includes a picnic lunch. Jim and Teri Enrietti will provide live music during the lunch. Register at the clubhouse. Proceeds will support Forgotten Eagles programs to benefit veterans and active servicemen and women.
