The Detroit Tigers scored three late runs, and defeated the Minnesota Twins 9-6 last night. Detroit staked starter Anibal Sanchez to an early lead, with single runs in the first and second innings. Sanchez threw three shutout innings, but fell apart in the fourth, as the Twins scored five runs. Detroit reclaimed the lead with four in the bottom of the fourth, with help from triples by Ian Kinsler and Cameron Maybin. Minnesota tied it with a run in the fifth. Miguel Cabrera put Detroit ahead for good with a solo home run in the seventh, and the Tigers tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth.

The Tigers conclude that home series against the Minnesota Twins this afternoon. Mike Pelfrey will make his first start since he was put on the disabled list six weeks ago with back problems. Hector Santiago will counter for the Twins. Hear the first pitch at 1:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Cleveland also won, so the Tigers still trail the Indians by six games in the American League Central Division. Baltimore won, and Toronto lost, so Detroit trails the Blue Jays by a game in the race for the final American League wild card playoff berth.

The Brewers open a four-game series in Chicago against the Cubs tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Mike Montgomery. If the Cubs win, they will clinch the National League Central Division title.
