Tigers Gain Ground in AL Race – Tuesday Sports Wrap

The Detroit Tigers gained some ground in the playoff race with a 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins last night. Daniel Norris struck out 11 before leaving in the seventh inning trailing 2-1. Shane Greene replaced him, and got the win when Detroit scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead. Miguel Cabrera’s home run in the eighth sealed the victory. Ian Kinsler led off the game with a homer.

The Tigers continue that home series against the Minnesota Twins tonight. Matt Boyd will start against Kyle Gibson. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Cleveland lost, so Detroit now trails the Indians by six games in the American League Central Division. Baltimore lost, so the Tigers now trail the Orioles by a game in the race for the second American League wild card playoff berth.

Justin Upton left last night’s game with soreness in his left calf. He says it’s not serious, and is considered day-to-day.

The Milwaukee Brewers were shut out by the Cincinnati Reds 3-0 last night

The Brewers continue that set against the Reds in Cincinnati tonight. Matt Garza will pitch against Dan Straily.
