MLB

The Tigers couldn’t capitalize on an early lead, and fell to the Cubs 3-1 last night. Dillon Dingler singled home Spencer Torkelson in the second inning, but despite collecting nine hits, couldn’t score for the rest of the game. Chicago plated two in the fifth and one in the sixth off Bryan Sammons, who took the loss.

The Tigers play the Cubs in Chicago again tonight. Anticipate another bullpen night for Detroit. Jameson Taillon will pitch for the Cubs. Coverage will begin at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

Javier Báez struck out four times last night, and team officials say they’ll be reducing his field time to take a look at Trey Sweeney, who was recently acquired from the Dodgers in the Jack Flaherty trade.

Former Tigers infielder Gio Urshela had been signed by the Braves. Atlanta third baseman Austin Riley recently broke his hand, and is expected to miss the rest of the regular season.

The Brewers shaded the Cardinals 3-2 last evening. William Contreras had three hits. Frankie Montas allowed just one hit over seven shutout innings.

The Brewers play at St. Louis again this evening. Tobias Myers will start against Kyle Gibson.

Reliever Trevor Megill is back with the Brewers, after missing time with a lower back strain. Elvis Peguero was sent to Nashville to open a roster space.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team has been picked to finish sixth out of the nine competing teams in the Great lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this fall. Northern Michigan was tabbed to win the conference, with Grand Valley State a close second.
