The Chicago White Sox scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and came from behind to defeat the Detroit Tigers 7-4 yesterday afternoon. The rally against Shane Greene and Justin Wilson came after the Tigers had taken the lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Jose Iglesias. Justin Upton homered earlier in the game for Detroit.

Cleveland won, so the Tigers now trail the Indians by five and a half games in the American League Central Division. Baltimore lost, so Detroit remains a game behind the Baltimore Orioles in the race for the final American League wild card playoff berth.

The Tigers take today off, and host the Orioles tomorrow night. Michael Fulmer will start against Kevin Gausman. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Jonathan Villar’s second home run of the game in the eighth inning lifted the Milwaukee Brewers to a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs last night. The win wasn’t complete, though until after Keon Broxton made a leaping catch at the center field wall of a long fly ball hit by Anthony Rizzo in the top of the ninth.

The Brewers open a set against the Cardinals in St. Louis tonight. Junior Guerra will pitch against Jaime Garcia.

The Michigan Tech football team is preparing to host seventh-ranked Ferris State on Saturday. Coach Tom Kearly knows it will take a complete effort to snap the Bulldogs’ 26-game regular-season winning streak. “You watch film for weaknesses and flaws, and where you have a chance to attack them,” he said. “There’s not many of those places out there with this football team.” The Huskies kick off against the Bulldogs Saturday at 1:00 at Sherman Field.

Baraga County Sno Drifters logoBaraga Swap Meet
The Baraga County Swap Meet and ORV Poker Run will be held Saturday at the Baraga County Sno Drifters’ clubhouse on Menge Creek Road. It will feature a swap meet for motorcycle, car, ORV and snowmobile parts, along with a snowmobile display. Crafters are also welcome. Refreshments will be available. Sign-up for the ORV poker run at 9:00 am. For more information, or to arrange for vendor space, call Scott at 524-6354 or 395-7354.

Our high school football coverage continues tomorrow evening, when Houghton entertains Ironwood. Our pregame show will begin around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
