MLB
Jed Lowrie’s solo homer in the top of the ninth inning gave the Oakland Athletics a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers yesterday. The Tigers had broken open a 1-1 tie when Nicholas Castellanos blasted a three-run homer in the seventh. Oakland responded with three off Joe Jiménez in the top of the eighth, and completed the comeback against Shane Greene in the ninth. The loss spoiled a good start by Jordan Zimmermann, who gave up four hits over five scoreless innings.

The Tigers have dropped six straight, and entertain the Athletics again this evening. Blaine Hardy will pitch against Frankie Montas. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit has come to terms with first-round draft pick Casey Mize. He’s getting a 7.5-million dollar signing bonus. After pitching a full spring at the college level, the preliminary plan is to give him a little minor league work this summer, then give him some rest until next spring.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and host the Kansas City Royals in an interleague series beginning tonight. Freddy Peralta will start against Jakob Junis.
