Tigers Fall in 15 – Wednesday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Detroit Tigers dropped a 3-2 marathon to the Philadelphia Phillies last night. Rhys Hoskins singled home the winning run off Daniel Stumpf in the top of the 15th inning. Detroit had a chance to close it out in the bottom of the 14th, but Nicholas Castellanos was thrown out at home plate. Matthew Boyd gave up two runs over six innings. The game started after a 40-minute rain delay, and didn’t end until well after midnight.

The Tigers and Phillies wrap up that quick interleague set in Detroit this afternoon. Jordan Zimmermann will pitch against Vince Velasquez. Pregame coverage will start at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Zach Davies had a rare off-game, as the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Cincinnati Reds 14-6 last night. Davies gave up a pair of two-run homers in the first inning. He left in the fifth, and was charged with seven runs. Manny Piña homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers host the Reds again this afternoon. Jhoulys Chacín will start against Lucas Sims.

Milwaukee starter Brandon Woodruff is expected to miss six weeks because of the oblique strain that forced him out of Sunday’s game.
