MLB
The Detroit Tigers couldn’t take advantage of a strong start by Jordan Zimmermann, and lost to the Kansas City Royals 2-1 in 13 innings yesterday. Zimmermann gave up just one run on four hits over eight innings. He left with the score tied at one, thanks to Steven Moya’s first career home run in the third inning. Justin Wilson, Shane Greene and Bruce Rondon continued the shutout through the 12th. In the 13th, Salvador Perez singled off Kyle Ryan. He advanced to second when Miguel Cabrera couldn’t handle Ryan’s throw on a pickoff attempt. An intentional walk, a sacrifice bunt, and another intentional walk loaded the bases, and Chester Cuthbert’s single to left drove home the winning run for Kansas City.
