MLB
Michael Fulmer’s quality start was wasted last night, as the Detroit Tigers fell to the Kansas City Royals 3-1. Fulmer gave up three runs over eight innings. Detroit’s only score came when James McCann singled home Mikie Mahtook in the fourth inning.

The Tigers have lost five of their last seven games, and wrap up that series against the Royals tonight. Anibal Sanchez will start against Ian Kennedy. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers blanked the Washington Nationals 8-0 last night. Zach Davies pitched into the eighth, and gave up just three hits. Oliver Drake completed the shutout. Travis Shaw, Eric Thames and Manny Piña homered.

The Brewers continue that series at Washington tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Gio Gonzalez.

MLB.com is reporting that the Brewers have agreed to a trade with the Chicago White Sox. Milwaukee will get reliever Anthony Swarzak, who, at age 31, is having his best season. The Sox will get outfielder Ryan Cordell, who has been on the disabled list at Triple-A Colorado Springs for the past month, and was recently rated  the Brewers’ 17th-best prospect.

Twilight League
In Copper Country Twilight League baseball last night…
– Dean Kangas State Farm took both ends of a doubleheader against REL-Mohawk Technologies, taking the first contest 5-3, and the second 3-2.
– The result of the game between Superior National Bank-Stanton and Wolverine-Orbit was not reported.

NFL
With training camp set to open on Monday, the Detroit Lions added punter Sam Martin to the Non-Football Injury List because of a recent ankle injury. Team officials say he’ll miss time during the pre-season.

The Green Bay Packers begin their training camp tomorrow morning. Players moved into the dorms at St. Norbert College yesterday.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons have signed swingman Luis Montero to a two-way contract. He’ll likely spend most of this season with the Grand Rapids Drive, but will be available for call-up to the Pistons. Montero split time last season between the G League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce and Reno Bighorns.
