MLB – Tigers Drop Seventh Straight
The Detroit Tigers’ late rally fell short, and they lost to the Oakland Athletics 7-5 yesterday. Shane Greene gave up six runs before leaving in the fifth inning, and took the loss. Detroit made it close by scoring four runs in the ninth inning, but couldn’t avoid their seventh straight defeat.

The Tigers open a series against the White Sox at Chicago tonight. Kyle Ryan will start against Jose Quintana. Hear the first pitch at 8:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Reliever Bruce Rondon is expected to rejoin the team for tonight’s game. Rondon missed all of last season following Tommy John surgery, and all of this season with biceps tendinitis. Starter Justin Verlander will make another rehab start for the Toledo Mud Hens tomorrow, with hopes of rejoining the Tigers next week. He’s missed the entire season with a strained biceps.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and open a series at Minnesota tonight. Kyle Lohse will start against Kyle Gibson.

In Copper Country Twilight League action last night…
– At the Stanton Field, Blue Sky Health scored five runs in the sixth inning, and defeated the Stanton Wildcats 10-5. Brian Juopperi had two hits and scored three runs for Blue Sky.
– The result of the Wolverine/Orbit – Pat’s Foods/Mosquito Inn game was not reported.

Red Wings – Mrazek Named Rookie of Year
Goalie Petr Mrazek has been named the Detroit Red Wings’ Rookie of the Year by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association. Mrazek filled in so well for injured goalie Jimmy Howard that coach Mike Babcock named him the starting goalie in the playoffs.

Finlandia Volleyball Adds Three
The Finlandia University volleyball team has added three more players for next season. Shermyia McGrew is from Dallas, Texas, and plays right side and middle blocker. Meagan Daugherty is a front row player from Eden Prairie, Minnesota.  Jessie Marie Diaz Mojica is a defensive specialist, and is coach Kristen Schuster’s third recruit from Puerto Rico.

K of C Fishing Tourney Tomorrow
The 14th annual Knights of Columbus Charity Fishing Tournament will be held on Portage Lake, Torch Lake, and Lac La Belle. There’ll be $3.000 in tagged fish, first second and third place cash prizes for both walleye and pike, and largest fish payouts in each category. Entry is $45.00 per angler and covers all categories. A registration meeting will be held at the Lake Linden park pavilion this evening at 7:00.

S.P.O.R.T Ride Deadline Tomorrow
The fourth annual S.P.O.R.T. ORV ride will be held a week from tomorrow. It begins with a self-guided ride from the Baraga State Park to Twin Lakes State Park in the Bill Nicholls trail. Riders will then leave Twin Lakes, and head to the Ontonagon County Park for refreshments and displays before returning to Twin Lakes and Baraga. The sign-up deadline is tomorrow. Contact either the Baraga State Park or the Twin Lakes State Park to sign up. The rides are free, but you must have a Michigan Recreation Passport to enter the parks, and a valid ORV sticker to use the trails.
