MLB
The Detroit Tigers lost both of their games against the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday. In their regularly-scheduled afternoon contest, Michael Fulmer gave up the game’s only run in the first, then went on to complete eight strong innings. The Tigers collected only two hits in the 1-0 shutout. Detroit then fell 8-6 in the makeup of Saturday’s rainout. Emergency starter Ryan Carpenter gave up three runs in the third, and Buck Farmer allowed five runs in the fifth. Miguel Cabrera doubled and slugged his first home run of the season. Nicholas Castellanos tripled. The Tigers entertain the Kansas City Royals this afternoon. Francisco Liriano will start against Jason Hammel. Pregame coverage begins at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit outfielder Victor Reyes had to leave last night’s game after he collided with shortstop Jose Iglesias while they chased a fly ball in shallow left field. Reyes suffered a cut to his arm, and is considered day-to-day.

The Milwaukee Brewers had a rare Sunday off yesterday, and play their home opener against the St. Louis Cardinals this afternoon. Zach Davies will pitch against Miles Mikolas.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons’ winning streak increased to five games last night, with a 108-96 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Reggie Jackson led Detroit with 29 points. Pregame coverage starts at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

After splitting the first two games of the Gibson Cup series this weekend, the Calumet Wolverines and Portage Lake Pioneers will decided the set with a third game Friday night. NCAA Basketball
The University of Michigan will face Villanova for the NCAA men’s basketball championship tonight. The Wolverines advanced with a 69-57 victory over Cinderella underdog Loyola on Saturday. Villanova knocked off Kansas 95-79.

The deadline has passed for removing ice shanties from local lakes. Shanties had to be taken off the ice by midnight Saturday. They can still be returned to the ice for daily use, but must be hauled back to shore each evening. While you’re at it, get a new fishing license. Last year’s licenses expired on Saturday, as well.
