MLB

The Tigers lost their fifth straight game last night, 9-3 to the Blue Jays. Nick Maton’s three-run homer in the second inning gave Detroit an early lead. The Tigers then loaded the bases with one out, but Riley Greene struck out, and Matt Vierling popped out to end the inning. Detroit collected just two more hits over the final seven innings. Matt Manning allowed four runs over six innings, and took the loss.

The Tigers play in Toronto again tonight. Eduardo Rodriguez will start against Kevin Gausman. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Manning’s final pitch produced a comebacker that hit his foot. He covered first base to get the out, but was later diagnosed with a broken bone in the foot. He’ll be evaluated further today, but the injury typically takes six weeks to heal.

Starter Michael Lorenzen has recovered from his groin strain, and is scheduled to start against the Giants on Friday.

The Brewers broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the seventh inning, and went on to a 7-1 victory over the Diamondbacks last night. Willy Adames, Rowdy Tellez and Mike Brosseau homered. Corbin Burnes scattered three hits over eight scoreless innings.

The Brewers visit the Diamondbacks again this afternoon. Janson Junk will start against Drey Jameson.

NFL

The Lions are giving up on cornerback Jeff Okudah. Reports indicate that he’ll be traded to the Falcons in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick. Okudah was the number three overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but played in just 10 games over his first two seasons because of injuries. He started 15 games last season, but struggled in pass coverage.
