The Detroit Red Wings will host the Tampa Bay Lightning in game three of their opening-round playoff series tonight. Tampa leads the best-of-seven set two games to none. Face-off is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
MLB
Justin Verlander survived a shaky first inning, and the Detroit Tigers came from behind to defeat the Houston Astros 5-3 on Saturday. Verlander surrendered two homers and three runs in the first, then pitched five scoreless innings. Detroit scored a run in the second on a Nick Castellanos double, a run in the fifth on a Houston error, and took the lead on Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s two-run homer in the sixth. Victor Martinez doubled in an insurance run in the ninth, and Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect ninth to earn his third save. That set at Houston wraps up this afternoon. The Tigers have brought reliever Alex Wilson up from Toledo, where he was on a rehab assignment recovering from a sore shoulder. Buck Farmer has been sent down to make room.
The Milwaukee Brewers collected just three hits in a 5-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday. That series at Pittsburgh wraps up this afternoon. Zach Davies will make his first start of the season for the Brewers. He’s covering for Matt Garza, who is on the disabled list. Juan Nicasio will start for the Pirates.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University softball team dropped two games at Wisconsin-River Falls Saturday. The Lions were victims of a no-hitter in the opening game, and fell 15-0. Finlandia collected just three hits in the nightcap, while losing 10-2. The Lions won all three of their games at Maranatha Baptist University Friday afternoon, 9-1, 18-13 and 14-3.
MTU
The MTU men’s tennis team defeated Lake Superior State 6-3 Saturday morning.
