Tigers’ Comeback Falls Short – Saturday Sports Wrap

The Tigers couldn’t climb out of an early hole, and lost to the Padres 5-4 last evening. San Diego opened a 5-0 lead off Detroit starter Reese Olson, who gave up two long home runs to Juan Soto. Homers by Zach McKinstry and Riley Greene powered a Detroit comeback that fell just short.

The Tigers host the Padres again tonight. Matt Manning will start for Detroit. Coverage will begin at 5:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers fell to the Braves 6-4 last evening. A two-run Milwaukee lead after the first inning melted away quickly, as Atlanta scored six runs in five innings off Freddy Peralta. Willy Adames hit a late two-run homer for the Crew.

The Brewers host the Braves again this evening. Adrian Houser will pitch for Milwaukee.

NFL

Veterans are scheduled to report to Lions training camp today, joining rookies, who checked in several days ago. Detroit opens its preseason schedule at home against the Giants August 11th.

The Packers are opening a bit later. Quarterbacks and rookies reported yesterday, with veterans due Wednesday. Green Bay kicks off its preseason August 11th at Cincinnati.
