Tigers Club Guardians – Tuesday Sports Wrap

Fast Pitch Softball

In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League play last night…
• Gold Standard routed Superior National Bank 18 to 3. Peyton Goldsworthy was the winning pitcher, and had a double. For Superior National Bank, Brita Haataja had a double and Larissa Anderson had a triple.
• Superior National Bank got past JB’s Sales and Service 8 -6. Anderson was the winning pitcher, and had a home run and a double for SNB, while Kim Aho and Elli Kuntze each had a triple. For JB’s, Brynn Arko had a home run and a double and Sadie Biekkola had a home run and two singles.
• Tervo Agency blanked Superior Service 10-0. Mel Baker was the winning pitcher. At the plate for Tervo Agency, Cassidy Albrecht had three singles, and Amber Schoenicke had a home run and a single. Isabelle Cleary had two hits for Superior Service.

Twilight League

In Copper Country Twilight League baseball action this evening…
• Northern Driveline and REL-Mohawk Technology will play a doubleheader beginning at 6:00 at the Wolverine field.
• Houghton Building Supply-Stanton and Garnet Garage will play one game at 6:30 at the Houghton field. 

MLB

The Tigers got off to a quick start, and cruised past the Guardians 8-2 last night. Justyn-Henry Malloy hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Colt Keith also homered. Jake Rogers legged out a Little League home run, when he was able to score on a triple after a throwing error by center fielder Angel Martínez. Matt Vierling and Mark Canha each had three hits. Tarik Skubal pitched seven innings, allowing 10 hits, but giving up just one run.

The Tigers have won 11 of their last 14 games, and continue that series at Cleveland tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Tigers have signed their top pick in this summer’s draft. Shortstop Bryce Rainer, the No. 11 overall pick, will receive a $5.8 million bonus.

The Brewers dropped a 3-1 decision to the Cubs last evening. A Willy Adames eighth-inning homer provided the only Milwaukee run. Tobias Myers pitched into the sixth, and was charged with all three Chicago runs.

The Brewers visit the Cubs again tonight. Colin Rae will start against Jameson Taillon.

NFL

The Lions have signed veteran offensive lineman Ike Boettger. He spent last season with the Colts, and the previous five campaigns with the Bills. Detroit veterans will report to the team’s Allen Park training facility to begin training camp today, joining rookies, who checked in on Saturday.

The Packers have signed Pro Bowl defensive lineman Kenny Clark to a contract extension. Terms were not revealed. Packers’ training camp opened over the weekend at Nitschke Field in Green Bay.

Horseshoes

In Copper Country Horseshoe League play last evening…
• Harter’s Party Store stopped Luigi’s 8-1.
• Bucko’s Party Store defeated Maple Leaf 6-3.
• Eva’s Hideaway downed Ahmeek Fire Department 8-1.
• Calumet Electronics outscored L and L 8-1.
• Calumet One dispatched Houghton Building Supply 7-2.
• Dreamland One blanked Mohawk Superette 9-0.
