High School
In high school baseball Friday…
– Jeffers swept Calumet 6-2 and 15-11. Carson Turner went the distance for the Jets in the opener to earn the win. He gave up just four hits, walked four, and struck out six. Turner and Jaden Wood each had two hits. In the second game, Jeffers used five pitchers, with Evan Larson earning the win. Elias Rajala had three hits, drove in four runs, and scored twice.Kurt Halonen scored four runs, and Darren Nordstrom drove in three.

MLB
Jordan Zimmermann suffered his first loss of the season, as the Detroit Tigers fell to the Texas Rangers 5-1 Friday night. Zimmermann turned in a quality start, allowing three tuns on seven hits over eight innings. Justin Wilson gave up the final two runs in the ninth. The Tigers’ offense was held to just two hits by Texas starter Cole Hamels and two relievers. Detroit’s only run came when Ian Kinsler scored as Miguel Cabrera grounded into a double play in the ninth inning.
The Tigers continue that home set against the Rangers this afternoon. Mike Pelfrey will start against A.J. Griffin. Hear the first pitch at 1:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Detroit pitcher Shane Greene will miss at least one more start. Greene is on the disabled list because of a blister on his pitching hand. He reopened the blister while throwing on Thursday.
Spot starter Tyler Cravy struggled, as the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Cincinnati Reds 5-1 Friday night. Cravy gave up all five Cincinnati runs over four innings. Milwaukee’s only score came on Alex Presley’s solo homer in the fifth inning.
The Brewers continue that series in Cincinnati this evening. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Brandon Finnegan.
NHL
In the NHL playoffs last night, the Lightning edged the Islanders 2-1 in overtime. Tampa Bay leads that best-of-seven second round series three games to one.
NBA
In the NBA playoffs, The Cavaliers got past the Hawks 121-108. Cleveland leads that set three games to none. The Spurs slipped past the Thunder 100-96, and lead their series two games to one.
NFL
As NFL rookie minicamps opened yesterday, the Detroit Lions announced that they had signed nine of their 10 picks in the recent NFL draft. Their second-round selection, defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson, is the only one who remains unsigned.Robinson is in camp, and did take part in drills yesterday.
The Packers have signed their final four selections from the draft.
