MLB
The Detroit Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, and edged the Houston Astros 3-2 Saturday. Detroit held a 1-0 lead going into the ninth, having scored in the sixth inning on an error by Astros’ second baseman Jose Altuve. Justin Verlander pitched shutout ball through eight innings, but Houston broke through with two runs in the top of the ninth. Verlander did complete the game. He earned his 11th win when James McCann singled home to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, and Jose Iglesias beat out an infield single to drive home Tyler Collins with the winning run.

The Tigers wrap up that set against the Astros this afternoon. Mike Pelfrey will pitch against Dallas Keuchel. Hear the first pitch at 1:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers held off a late Pittsburgh comeback, and defeated the Pirates 5-3 Saturday. The Crew scored two in the first on an Hernan Perez home run. Pittsburgh got one back in the fourth – the only run Chase Anderson gave up over five innings. Milwaukee tacked on two more in the seventh on RBI singles by Perez and Jonathan Villar, and added an insurance run when Kirk Nieuwenhuis homered in the eighth. Pittsburgh scored single runs in the eighth and ninth, but couldn’t close the gap.

The Brewers close that series against the Pirates this afternoon. Matt Garza will pitch against Francisco Liriano.

Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy appears to be headed to the Cleveland Indians. The MLB Network is reporting that the All-Star catcher will move to Cleveland in exchange for four prospects, including catcher Francisco Mejia, a 20-year-old switch-hitter who is a highly rated prospect. MLB Network says the package also includes 20-year-old shortstop Yu-Cheng Chang, speedy 23-year-old center fielder Greg Allen, and one other player. Neither team has confirmed the trade, possibly because Lucroy must also approve it.

NFL
The Detroit Lions have extended cornerback Darius Slay’s contract through the 2020 season.
