In high school volleyball yesterday…
– Hancock v Dollar Bay-Tamarack City – not reported.
– L’Anse fell to Gwinn 3-1 (23-25, 12-25, 25-20, 13-25).
– Jeffers downed Baraga 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-4, 25-11).
– Ewen-Trout Creek edged Ontonagon 3-2.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University volleyball team plays at Wisconsin-Superior tonight.
Several Finlandia soccer players have been honored by the American Collegiate Athletic Association. Daisia Knowles and Kirsten L’Esperance have been named the women’s Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week. Noah Raisanen has been selected as the men’s Defensive Player of the Week.
MLB
Grayson Greiner drove in three runs, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Chicago White Sox 8-3 last night. Greiner’s two-run double powered a five-run second inning. Dawel Lugo also singled home a pair of runs. Mikie Mahtook homered later in the game. Francisco Liriano went five innings to earn the won, giving up three runs in the fourth.
The Tigers wrap up that series against the White Sox in Chicago tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Michael Kopech. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Milwaukee Brewers pounded the Chicago Cubs 11-1 last evening. Wade Miley gave up a run on three hits to earn the win. Jonathan Schoop drove in three runs.
The Brewers host the Cubs again tonight. Jhoulys Chacín will pitch against José Quintana.
NFL
The Detroit Lions have signed cornerback Quandre Diggs to a three-year contract extension. The also signed linebacker Marquis Flowers, who was recently cut by the New England Patriots.
Calumet High School Golf Outing
The deadline to sign up for the Calumet High School hockey team golf fundraiser is this Friday. The outing will be held at the Calumet Golf Club on Saturday, September 15th, beginning at 10:00. The cost is $150.00 for a three-person team, which includes golf and dinner. The registration deadline is this Friday.
