High School
In high school volleyball today…
– Houghton travels to Gwinn.
– Hancock plays at Chassell.
– L’Anse visits Lake Linden-Hubbell.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City welcomes Ontonagon.
The first cross country meet of the season will be held today, as local teams run at the Jeffers Invitational at the Kilpela farm.
The Calumet High School varsity baseball team is collecting returnables to raise money. You may deposit returnables in the receptacle outside of Pats Foods in Calumet, or call 337-3421 to have them picked up.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and open a series at Kansas City tonight. Matthew Boyd will start against Jakob Junis. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift. Outfielder JaCoby Jones will be back with the Tigers tonight, after being reactivated from the disabled list. Mike Gerber has been sent back to Toledo.
The Milwaukee Brewers were also idle yesterday, and begin a series at Cincinnati this evening. Junior Guerra will pitch against Anthony DeSclafani.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings have extended their affiliation with the Toledo Walleye of the East Coast Hockey League. The Walleye serve as Detroit’s second-tier development team, under the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Golf Outings
There are several golf fundraisers on the horizon…
– The Calumet Wolverines’ annual golf outing will take place Saturday at 10:00 at the Calumet Golf Club. The tournament is a four-man scramble. To sign up call the Calumet Golf Club at 337-3911. For more details, click here.
– The Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce golf outing will be held at the Portage Lake course on September 12th at 9:00. For details and sign-up information, click here.
– The Calumet High School hockey team will hold a golf fundraiser on September 15th at the Calumet Golf Club. The cost is $150.00 for a three-person team, which includes golf and dinner. The registration deadline is September 7th. To sign up, call the Athletic Director’s Office at 337-0311 x2204, or email sjacques@clkschools.org.
Our high school football coverage continues with two big games this week. On Thursday, Houghton plays at L’Anse. On Friday, Hancock entertains Gogebic. Pregame shows will begin at 6:40 each evening on KBear 102.3, KBear102.com, and our free KBear Apple and Android Apps.
