Daniel Norris couldn’t make it through the fourth inning last night, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Kansas City Royals 8-2. Norris was charged with five runs on eight hits. Warwick Saupold gave up a run in relief, and Alex Wilson surrendered two scores. Detroit got homers from Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila.
The Tigers host the Royals again this afternoon. Michael Fulmer will start against Jake Junis. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Victor Martinez returned to the Detroit lineup last night, after missing time because of an irregular heartbeat.
Matthew Boyd will be brought back from Toledo to start one of Saturday’s doubleheader games against the Cleveland Indians. Since being demoted to the Mud Hens early this month, Boyd is 3-0 with a 2.86 ERA.
The Cincinnati Reds edged the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 last night. Ryan Braun homered early, and Travis Shaw tied the game at 3-3 with a solo shot in the top of the eighth. The Reds scored the game-winner off Corey Knebel in the bottom of the eighth. Milwaukee starter Chase Anderson left the game after suffering an oblique injury while batting in the top of the second inning. He’s expected to be place on the disabled list today.
That series concludes in Cincinnati this evening. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Homer Bailey.

The Detroit Red Wings have signed two-year contracts with a pair of defensemen who finished last season with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Dylan McIlrath and Brian Lashoff each agreed to two-way deals, that allow them to be shuttled between GR and Detroit as needed. The move came a day after the Wings signed Griffins forward Ben Street to a one-year extension.
NBA
Darrun Hilliard is no longer a Detroit Piston. Hilliard was traded to the Houston Rockets for cash considerations. The Rockets then forwarded him to Clippers as part of the deal that sent Chris Paul to the Rockets.
