MLB – Tigers Fall to Astros
The Houston Astros snuffed out a Tigers’ rally with a triple play, and edged Detroit 3-2 Saturday. The rare defensive feat came in the fifth inning, after the Tigers had scored their second run of the game. With Hernan Perez at second, and Anthony Gose at first, Ian Kinsler hit a ground ball to third base, which started the around-the-horn triple play. Kyle Lobstein gave up just one run over the first five innings, but took the loss after Houston scored twice in the sixth.
The Tigers conclude that home set against the Houston Astros this afternoon. Anibal Sanchez will start against Roberto Hernandez. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Jose Iglesias left Saturday’s game in the fifth inning after a collision at first base on an infield single. Team officials say he has a bruise on his left knee. He’s considered “day-to-day.”
Jace Peterson’s single in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted the Atlanta Braves to a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday. Each team had plenty of scoring opportunities – Milwaukee left nine runners on base, and Atlanta stranded 11. Brandon Kintzler took the loss.
The Brewers wrap up that series against the Braves at Atlanta this afternoon. Jimmy Nelson will start against Mike Foltynewicz.
