In high school softball Saturday…
• Houghton swept its doubleheader against Marquette, 5-1 and 9-4. Estella Soumis struck out six to earn the win in the opener. Fayah Zapolnik had two hits and two RBI. Romi Mattson struck out five to get the victory in the nightcap. Soumis had two hits and three RBI.
In softball today…
• Houghton hosts Iron Mountain.

In NHL playoff action yesterday…
• The Stars edged the Golden Knights 2-1. Dallas wins that opening-round series 4-3.
• The Rangers shaded the Hurricanes 4-3. New York takes a 1-0 lead in that second-round set.

In NBA playoff opening round play yesterday…
• The Cavaliers dispatched the Magic 106-94. Cleveland wins that series 4-3.

• The Knicks host the Pacers in the opening game of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.
• The Nuggets welcome the Timberwolves. Minnesota leads that Western Conference semifinal series 1-0.
MLB
The Tigers lost 5-2 to the Yankees yesterday, in a game that was stopped in the eighth inning because of rain. Tarik Skubal allowed a couple of early runs, then cruised through the sixth, striking out a career-best 12 batters. Detroit tied the game in the top of the seventh, with help from a Spencer Torkelson double. In the bottom of the seventh, New York loaded the bases against Shelby Miller. Andrew Chafin relieved him, and surrendered a bases-clearing double to Juan Soto.
The Tigers have lost three straight, and visit the Guardians tonight. Jack Flaherty will start against Triston McKenzie. Coverage will begin at 5:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers managed just five hits in a 5-0 loss to the Cubs yesterday. Freddy Peralta turned in four shutout innings, but left after giving up three runs in the fifth. He suffered his first loss of the season.
The Brewers visit the Royals tonight. Bryse Wilson will pitch against Cole Ragans.
