Tigers, Brewers Fall Late – Friday Sports Wrap

High School

The Jeffers baseball team will face East Jordan for a Division Four regional title tomorrow at 10:00 at Indian Lakes High School. Coverage will begin around 9:45 on KBear 102.3. Rogers City and Rudyard will play for their regional title at 12:30. The state quarterfinal game between the winners of those two contests will be played at 2:30. We’ll broadcast that on KBear 102.3 if the Jets advance. Tickets for the games must be purchased in advance online at GoFan.co.

The Hancock softball team will take on Ishpeming in a Division Four regional semifinal tomorrow morning at Bark River-Harris. Superior Central and Norway will meet in the other semifinal. The regional title game will be played between the winners tomorrow afternoon. Tickets for the games must be purchased in advance online at GoFan.co.

NBA

The Nuggets visit the Heat, as the NBA Championship Series continues tonight. Denver leads the set 2-1.

NHL

The Panthers shaded the Golden Knights 3-2 in overtime last evening. Vegas leads the Stanley Cup championship series 2-1.

MLB

Former Tiger Kody Clemens singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth last evening, as the Tigers fell to the Phillies 3-2. Tyler Holton pitched the first inning for Detroit. Reese Olson succeeded him, and gave up a run over five innings. The Tigers tied the game in the eighth, when Jake Marisnick raced home on a Zack Short bunt. Detroit took the lead in the top of the ninth on a Nick Maton RBI single. Alex Lange couldn’t hold the lead in the bottom of the ninth, and took the loss.

The Tigers have lost six in a row, and host the Diamondbacks tonight. Michael Lorenzen will start against Merrill Kelly. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Tigers added some more infield depth yesterday, purchasing the contract of left-handed-hitting utility player Joe Rizzo from the Marlins.

The Brewers lost to the Orioles 6-3 yesterday. Milwaukee scored all their runs in the first inning. Baltimore plated all theirs in the final three frames, ruining a good start by Colin Rea, who gave up three hits over five innings, and struck out eight.

The Brewers welcome the Athletics tonight. Adrian Houser will pitch against Luis Medina.
