MLB
Blaine Hardy’s return to the starting rotation was a quick one, as the Detroit Tigers lost 9-1 to the Boston Red Sox yesterday. Hardy gave up two runs in the second inning, and was chased from the game in the fourth, as the Sox scored four more off him and Drew VerHagen. Boston added three more in the seventh, off Daniel Stumpf and Louis Coleman. Detroit’s only score came on Jeimer Candelario’s home run.

The Tigers open a series at Kansas City tonight. Francisco Liriano will start against Heath Fillmyer. Pregame coverage begins at 7:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-2 yesterday. Starter Brent Suter gave up five runs in the second inning, and another in the third before leaving the game with a forearm injury. Things were so out of hand by the late innings that infielder Hernán Pérez was called in to pitch two scoreless innings, and catcher Erik Kratz pitched one. Travis Shaw singled home two Milwaukee runs in the first inning, but the Brewers collected only three hits after that.

The Brewers will host the Washington Nationals tonight. Jhoulys Chacín will pitch against Gio Gonzalez.

Suter’s injury seems to be a recurrence of the same problem that landed him on the disabled list earlier this month. He’ll be evaluated today.
