Tigers, Brewers Fall Again – Wednesday Sports Wrap

MLB

Spencer Turnbull struggled, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Houston Astros 6-3 last night. Turnbull gave up five runs over the first two innings, and left after the third. Matt Hall, Jose Cisnero and David McKay combined to allow one run on two hits over the final five frames. Victor Reyes homered for Detroit.

The Tigers continue that series at Houston tonight. Daniel Norris will start against Justin Verlander. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

For the record, last night’s loss mathematically eliminated the Tigers from contention for the American League Central Division title.

The Milwaukee Brewers lost 9-4 to the Saint Louis Cardinals last evening. The Cards broke open a tie game in the sixth inning when left fielder Ryan Braun, third baseman Hernán Pérez and shortstop Orlando Arcia allowed Dexter Fowler’s two-out, bases-loaded blooper to fall between them. Three runs scored. Saint Louis added another that inning, and four in the seventh to put the game away.

The Brewers conclude that set in Saint Louis this evening. Adrian Houser will start against Adam Wainwright.

The loss dropped the Brewers to four games behind the Cardinals in the National League Central Division Race. They remain in third place, a half-game behind the second-place Chicago Cubs.

College

The Michigan Tech soccer team will host Lewis University for a preseason match tonight at 6:00 at Sherman Field.

Northern Michigan University has a new lacrosse coach. Lindsey LeMay was previously an assistant at Wartburg College. She takes over from Emilia Ward, who led the program through its first three seasons, and is now an assistant at Marquette University.

NFL

The Detroit Lions have signed receiver Jordan Lasley, who was recently cut by the Baltimore Ravens, and then by the Oakland Raiders. To make room on the roster, the team waived running back Justin Stockton.
