MLB – Tigers Blanked
The Detroit Tigers collected just four hits yesterday, and lost to the the Oakland Athletics 4-0. Oakland starter Jesse Hahn struck out five on the way to his first career shutout. Shane Greene matched Hahn zero-for-zero until the sixth inning, when he gave up all four Athletics’ runs.
The Tigers continue that West Coast trip tonight at Oakland. David Price will start against Jesse Chavez. Hear the first pitch at 10:05 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
The Tigers have confirmed that Buck Farmer will be brought up from Toledo to fill in for starter Kyle Lobstein. Lobstein is on the disabled list with a sore shoulder. Farmer’s first appearance will be Thursday against the Angels.
The San Francisco Giants scored seven runs in the sixth inning to power their way past the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 yesterday. Milwaukee had built an early lead on two home runs by Khris Davis, and a 474-foot blast out of Miller Park by Ryan Braun. Kyle Lohse got into trouble in the top of the sixth, though, and the Giants kept scoring against Jeremy Jeffress and Will Smith. Lohse was charged with the loss.
The Brewers continue that home set against the Giants this evening. Matt Garza will start against Madison Bumgarner.
Milwaukee starter Wily Peralta will miss at least a month because of a rib cage injury. Peralta left Friday’s game with soreness. The injury was not initially believed to be serious, but an examination revealed a strained oblique muscle. Reliever David Goforth has been called up from Colorado Springs to fill the roster spot. Manager Craig Counsell has not decided who will fill Peralta’s spot in the rotation.
Brewers’ catcher Jonathan Lucroy’s broken toe is healing. He could begin a rehab assignment this week.
