Tigers Blanked, Trade Catcher – Monday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Tigers were held to just one hit in a 5-0 loss to the Twins yesterday. On a bullpen day, opener Alex Faedo allowed a run in the first inning,. and took the loss. The bright spot was Kenta Maeda, who gave up a run on five hits over five strong innings.

After dropping two of three to Minnesota, the Tigers host the Guardians tonight. Jack Flaherty will pitch against Tanner Bibee. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Parker Meadows began a rehab assignment with Toledo yesterday, drawing two walks in two at-bats, and scoring on a Spencer Torkelson grand slam. Meadows has missed three weeks with a hamstring strain.

The Tigers sent catcher Carson Kelly to the Rangers yesterday. In exchange, Detroit gets catcher Liam Hicks and right-handed pitcher Tyler Owens, both of whom had been playing at Texas’ Double A affiliate. Catcher Dillon Dingler is likely to be called up from Toledo to take Kelly’s place.

Jackson Chourio and Jake Bauers homered, as the Brewers downed the Marlins 6-2 yesterday. Closer Devin Williams pitched a scoreless ninth in his season debut, after missing four months while recovering from back problems.

The Brewers welcome the Braves this evening. Colin Rea will start against Grant Holmes.

Along with Williams, Milwaukee added pitcher Nick Mears to the active roster. Two pitchers were removed to make room – Janson Junk was designated for assignment, and Tyler Jay was optioned to Nashville.

NFL

Jordan Love is set to be the Packers’ quarterback for a few more years. Over the weekend, he signed a contract extension reported to be worth $220 million over four years.

NBA

The Pistons are adding Vitaly Potapenko as an assistant on J.B. Bickerstaff’s staff. The Ukranian native played 11 seasons in the NBA, and spent last season coaching for the Grizzlies.
