The Detroit Tigers fell quietly to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0 yesterday. Jordan Zimmermann suffered through another short start, giving up four runs on eight hits before leaving in the fifth inning. Tigers batters collected just five hits.
The Tigers open a series in Seattle against the Mariners tonight. Drew VerHagen will be brought up from Toledo to pitch against Matt Wisler. Pregame coverage will start at 9:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Milwaukee Brewers overcame another shaky start by Jhoulys Chacín to edge the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 yesterday. Chacín gave up all four Cincy runs over three innings, and left the game with discomfort in his ribs. Ryan Braun and Keston Hiura homered. Freddy Peralta earned his first major league save.
The Brewers have today off, and host the Chicago Cubs tomorrow night. Gio Gonzalez will start against Kyle Hendricks.
Chacín will be evaluated today, but team officials have already said he’s likely to join fellow starter Brandon Woodruff on the injured list.

– Downtowner Two v Luigi’s – not reported
– Auto Pro/ThermoAnalytics built an early lead, and held off Downtowner Two 19-17. Downtowner scored six runs in the ninth inning to make the game close. Logan Rastello had five hits, including a home run for Auto Pro.

Twilight League Baseball

– Superior National Bank-Stanton will play Dean Kangas-State Farm at the Hancock Driving Park.

High School
The Hancock High School athletics program will host a football camp for 9th through 12th-graders next week. Players from all local teams are invited to take part. Camp will meet Monday through Wednesday, from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM at McAfee Field. The cost is $5.00 per participant.
NFL
The Green Bay Packers have released defensive lineman Mike Daniels. The surprise move came a day after the Packers signed defensive end Dean Lowry to a three-year contract extension. The Daniels cut will save 8 million dollars against the salary cap. Daniels played seven seasons for the Pack, and made the Pro Bowl in 2017.
The Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League tournament will be held Saturday at the Bone Yard in Lake Linden. Superior National Bank will play Crush/Diamond House/Baby E’s at 10:00. Coca Cola of Hancock will face Northern Michigan Land Brokers at noon. The winners will then face off in the championship contest. We’ll broadcast the games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
