The Detroit Tigers collected just five hits in a 10-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians last night. Starter Mike Fiers gave up four runs over five innings. The Indians put the game away in the seventh, with a five-run outburst off Johnny Barbato, including a grand slam by Yonder Alonso.
The Tigers have lost three straight, and play at Cleveland again tonight. Francisco Liriano will return from the disabled list to start against Trevor Bauer. Liriano has missed almost a month with a strained hamstring. Pregame coverage will begin at 5:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
After the game, the team placed Barbato admitted to team officials that he has a sore shoulder, and was placed on the 10-day disabled list. Artie Lewicki has been called up from Toledo to fill in. To make room for Liriano on the roster, infielder Ronny Rodriguez was sent down.
Jesús Aguilar’s home run in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Milwaukee Brewers to a 2-1 win over the Saint Louis Cardinals last night. The game-winning blast was Aguilar’s second of the night. The first came in the seventh inning, and ended a potential no-hitter by St. Louis starter Jack Flaherty. Milwaukee starter Junior Guerra gave up a run on three hits over five innings. He threw 106 pitches, walking four and striking out seven.
The Brewers entertain the Cardinals again this afternoon. Chase Anderson will start against Miles Mikolas.

The Detroit Red Wings selected Czech forward Filip Zadina with the sixth pick in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft last night. Many observers were surprised that the 18-year-old was still available – he had been projected as the third overall pick. With the 30th selection in the first round, the Wings took center Joe Veleno, whom many scouts had also predicted would go earlier. Rounds two through seven of the draft will be held today.
The Buffalo Sabres opened the draft by taking Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. The Carolina Hurricanes followed, and took Russian forward Andrei Svechnikov.
Before the draft began, the Wings announced the hiring of former Pittsburgh and Buffalo head coach Dan Bylsma as an assistant coach. Bylsma worked with Detroit head coach Jeff Blashill with Team USA in the recent World Championships.
