Fast Pitch Softball
In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League play last evening…
• REL routed Northern Michigan Land Brokers 18-4. Delaney Heinonen was the winning pitcher. Hannah Impola led REL with two doubles and a single. Maddie Johnson had a triple and two singles, and Morgan Erkkila added three singles. Marissa Nordstrom had two singles for NMLB.
• Superior National Bank got past Crush 8-5. Rosalie Kangas was the winning pitcher. SNB broke open a tie game with three runs in the sixth inning. Kim Aho had a single and a double for SNB. For Crush, Sarah Audette had a double and two singles, Laura Lyons had a triple and two singles, and Kara Kinnunen picked up two singles.
• Superior Service dispatched Tervo Agency 11-6. Reagan Moyle and Isabelle Clearly combined for the win. Superior Service scored all 11 runs in the third inning. Moyle and Becca Markham each had a double and a single.
Twilight League Baseball

• REL-Mohawk Technology edged Northern Driveline 8-7.

College Baseball
The Finlandia University baseball team has added a new recruit. Cameron Ridenbaugh is a pitcher from Akron, Ohio.
College Soccer
The Finlandia men’s soccer team has also added a new player. James Anderson is a defender from Baltimore, Maryland.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team has added a preseason exhibition match to its schedule. The Huskies will host Lake Superior State October 1.
NHL
On day two of the NHL free agent signing period, the Red Wings added some defensive depth by inking veteran Mark Pysyk to a one-year deal.
MLB
The Tigers fell to the Guardians 4-0 last night. Elvin Rodriguez pitched into the sixth, gave up three runs, and took the loss. Detroit collected just five singles, and struck out 12 times.
The Tigers visit the Guardians again tonight. Drew Hutchison will start against Zach Plesac. Coverage will begin at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.
Reliever José Cisnero is rejoining the Tigers. Cisnero has missed the entire season because of injuries – first, a shoulder strain, and then an Achilles tendon problem. He should be available for tonight’s game. To make room, Rodriguez was optioned back to Toledo.
Jonathan Davis’ infield single drove home Christian Yelich with the winning run in the top of the 10th inning, as the Brewers shaded the Giants 3-2 last night. Corbin Burnes turned in a great start, pitching into the eighth, giving up two runs, and striking out 10. Trevor Gott earned the win in relief, and Devin Williams retired the side in order in the bottom of the 10th to claim the save.
The Brewers visit the Giants again tonight. Eric Lauer will start against Alex Cobb.
Running
This year’s Hancock Canal Run will take place tomorrow. Distances for runs and walks range from a two-mile fun run and walk to a half-marathon. Onsite registration and bib pickup will be open today after between 3 and 8 at Quincy Green. Bib pickup will also be open tomorrow morning between 6 and 8:45. There will be no race-day registration.
