MLB

The Tigers scored early and often, and cruised to a 13-5 victory over the Astros Saturday. Houston starter Justin Verlander was a late scratch because of a stiff neck, and Detroit took advantage of the opportunity, plating 10 runs in the first three innings. Riley Greene had four hits, including two homers, and drove in six runs. Matt Vierling, Carson Kelly and Colt Keith also went deep. Keith and Wenceel Pérez each had four hits. Jack Flaherty scattered three hits over five shutout innings. All of Houston’s runs came off Mason Englert in the seventh.

The Tigers visit the Astros again today. Kenta Maeda will start for Detroit. Coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Former Detroit closer Alex Lange suffered a potentially serious arm injury while pitching for Toledo Friday evening. Team officials are reviewing medical tests that were run Saturday. Lange was demoted several weeks ago, after struggling with his control.

The Brewers shut down the Reds 3-1 Saturday. Joey Ortiz’ three-run homer in the fifth was all Milwaukee needed. Jared Koenig opened the game for the Crew, getting the first two outs before he was replaced by Bryse Wilson, who pitched shutout ball through the sixth.

The Brewers host the Reds again this afternoon. Colin Rae will pitch against Frankie Montas.

NHL
