Tomas Nido’s lead-off home run off Buck Farmer in the bottom of the 13th inning lifted the New York Mets to a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers yesterday. Detroit had force extra innings when JaCoby Jones singled home Josh Harrison in the eighth inning. Detroit loaded the bases in the top of the 12th, but Jones struck out, and John Hicks flied out to center field to end the threat. Brandon Dixon homered in the sixth inning. Starter Ryan Carpenter turned in his best outing of the season, allowing two runs on five hits over five innings. After the game, manager Ron Gardenhire said Carpenter would remain in the rotation, for now.
