Tervo, REL Advance in Fast Pitch Tourney – Friday Sports Wrap

Fast Pitch Softball

On the opening night of the Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League tournament…
• Tervo Agency jumped out to an early lead, and mercied Superior National Bank 15 to 5. Olivia Wakeham earned the win, striking out nine. At the plate for Tervo, Mel Baker and Alana Nolan each had two singles, and Wakeham and Aubrey Zackal each had a double and a single.
• REL mercied Northern Michigan Land Brokers 15 to 5. Vera Peterson was the winning pitcher. Morgan Erkkila had a triple and two singles for REL, and D’Andra Kero had two singles.

Tervo and REL will join regular-season champion JB’s in the semifinals tomorrow.

The fourth semifinalist will be decided tonight, when Crush faces Superior Service at the Bone Yard at 7.

The championship game tomorrow afternoon will be broadcast on KBear 102.3, with coverage starting around 2.

Twilight Baseball League

In Copper Country Twilight Baseball League play last night…
• REL-Mohawk Technology outscored Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker 12-9.
• Garnet Garage edged Houghton Building Supply-Stanton 4-3.

MLB

Matt Chapman hit two home runs, as the Blue Jays downed the Tigers 5-3 last night. Harold Castro and Jonathan Schoop homered for Detroit. Tyler Alexander gave up three runs over four innings, and took the loss.

The Tigers visit the Blue Jays again tonight. Brayan Garcia will start against Alek Manoah. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers had yesterday off, and visit the Red Sox tonight. Brandon Woodruff will start against Brayan Bello.

College Volleyball

 Cindy Pindral has been promoted to assistant head coach with the Michigan Tech volleyball team. She’s been with the team for six seasons, the past five as an assistant coach.
