Tech Women’s Hoops Smothers NMU, Men Fall on Buzzer-Beater – Monday Sports Wrap

Eight members of the Copper Country Ski Tigers traveled to Duluth for the CXC Junior and Youth cup opening race this weekend. The team placed skiers in the top half of the competition in both the men’s and women’s 18 and under, 16 and under and 14 and under freestyle races. Highlights included Joe Wood coming in 17th in the Men’s 10K freestyle; Cyrus Hamlin in 10th place in the 5K boy’s freestyle, Ingrid Seagren in 18th place in the girls 5k freestyle and Robin Kisiel in 7th place in the girls 3k freestyle.

On Sunday during the classic sprints both Cyrus Hamlin and Ingrid Seagren reached the semi-finals and placed 16th and 17th in their respective races. Auggie Hamlin placed 11th and Robin Kisiel 5th in the 14 and under category. See full results here.

Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team shut down Northern Michigan University 68-28 yesterday afternoon. The Huskies held the Wildcats to just 14 points over the first three quarters. Cassidy Trotter led Tech with 23 points.

The Tech men’s team couldn’t overcome a slow start, and lost to NMU 64-61. The Huskies trailed by 12 at halftime. They came back to take a brief late lead, but Marcus Matelski’s three-pointer at the buzzer won it for the Wildcats. Dawson Bilski scored 22 for Tech.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings’ two-game win streak ended with a 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings last night. Detroit’s goals by Filip Zadina and Madison Bowey came late in the contest. Eric Comrie stopped 28 shots in net.

The Wings host the host the Columbus Blue Jackets tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons host the Washington Wizards tonight.

NFL

In the NFL yesterday…
– the Detroit Lions lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 38-17. David Blough threw two interceptions, and the Lions were held to just 45 yards rushing.
– The Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears 21-13.
Aaron Jones rushed for two touchdowns. The win earns Green Bay a spot in the playoffs.

In last night’s game, the Buffalo Bills clinched a playoff berth with a 17-10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tonight, the Indianapolis Colts visit the New Orleans Saints. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
