– Houghton faces Birmingham Brother Rice at the Soo Lions Showcase tonight, and takes on Dearborn Divine Child tomorrow afternoon.
– L’Anse plays at a tournament along with Medford and Sparta in Merrill tonight and tomorrow.
In boys high school basketball last night…
– Calumet fell to West Iron County 51-48 in overtime.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City defeated Hancock 58-42.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell cruised past Jeffers 64-46. Arthur Lyons scored 24 for the Lakes. Lucas Klein added 19 points and 14 rebounds.
– Chassell defeated L’Anse 62-44.
– Ewen-Trout Creek buried Watersmeet 91-54.
In tonight’s only boys game, L’Anse plays at Ewen-Trout Creek.
In last night’s only girls game, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City edged Watersmeet 51-49 in double overtime.

MTU
The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team led by 30 at halftime, and sailed past Ferris State 78-49 last night. Five Tech players scored in double figures, led by Danielle Blake with 14 points and nine rebounds.
The MTU men’s team turned the ball over 22 times, and lost to Ferris 93-61. Jeff Gregory and Miles Sigh each scored 13 for the Huskies.
Both MTU teams play at Grand Valley tomorrow afternoon.
The Michigan Tech hockey team welcomes Minnesota-State tonight and tomorrow night. Face-offs are at 7:07 at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
NMU
Both Northern Michigan University hoops teams lost at Grand Valley State last night – the women 70-30, and the men 83-63. Both NMU teams play at Ferris State tomorrow afternoon.
The Northern hockey team hosts Alaska-Fairbanks tonight and tomorrow night.
GLIAC
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is adding two new members. Davenport University in Grand Rapids and Purdue University Calumet will begin competition in the 2017-2018 season. Both still need to clear the NCAA process for moving into Division Two. The additions will help make up for the loss of six GLIAC teams in Ohio and southern Michigan which will move to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference over the next two seasons.
Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s hockey team skates at St. Norbert University tonight and tomorrow afternoon. The women’s hockey team hosts Marian University. Face-offs are at 7:15 tonight, and 2:00 tomorrow afternoon at the Houghton County Arena.
Both Finlandia basketball teams play at Northland College tomorrow afternoon.
GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers entertain the Monroe Blues tonight at 7:30 at Dee Stadium. The Pioneers will host the Marquette Iron Rangers Sunday afternoon at 1:30. The Calumet Wolverines have the weekend off.
NHL
Danny DeKeyser’s overtime goal sealed the Detroit Red Wings’ 3-2 comeback win over the Phoenix Coyotes last night. The Wings trailed 2-0 heading onto the third period, but Pavel Datsyuk and Gustav Nyquist found the net to force the extra period. Petr Mrazek made 27 saves. The Wings will entertain the Philadelphia Flyers Sunday night.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons dropped a 103-101 heartbreaker to the Memphis Grizzlies last night. Mario Chalmers hit a 19-foot jumper with less than a second left to give the Grizzlies the win. Rookie Stanley Johnson led Detroit with 19 points. The Pistons host the Golden State Warriors tomorrow night.
NFL
The NFL Divisional Playoffs will be held this weekend. Tomorrow, Kansas City plays at New England at 4:35, and Green Bay plays at Arizona at 8:15. On Sunday, Seattle plays at Carolina at 1:05, and Pittsburgh plays at Denver at 4:40. Hear all four games on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers have avoided salary arbitration with utility player Andrew Romine. He’s agreed to a 900-thousand dollar deal for this season.
