Tech Volleyball Season Ends in NCAA Opening Round – Friday Sports Wrap

High School
The local high school hockey season begins tonight, when Jeffers entertains Cheboygan. Our broadcast coverage will start at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

Finlandia
Both Finlandia University hockey teams skate at home this weekend. The women will host Lake Forest College this afternoon at 3:00, and tomorrow at 2:00. The men will entertain Wisconsin-River Falls tonight – pregame coverage will begin at 6:55 on 99.3 The Lift, and 993TheLift.com. The men’s team will host Wisconsin-Superior tomorrow evening at 6:00.

The Finlandia women’s basketball team is in Wooster, Ohio, for the Nan Nichols Classic this weekend. The Lions will open against the host College of Wooster tomorrow afternoon. The men’s basketball team will begin play at the Carthage Classic in Kenosha tomorrow afternoon against North Central University.

MTU/NMU
The Michigan Tech volleyball team ended its season with a 3-0 (16-25, 17-25, 20-25) loss to Lewis University in the opening round of the NCAA Division II tournament last night at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. Mariah Sherman led the Huskies with 10 kills, and Laura DeMarchi had 16 digs. Sherman is the only senior graduating from the team this year.

The Michigan Tech hockey team skates at Clarkson University tonight and tomorrow night.

The Northern Michigan University hockey squad will host Alaska-Anchorage tonight and tomorrow night.

The MTU women’s basketball team entertains Minnesota State-Moorhead tonight at 6:00 at the SDC. The Tech men’s team is off this weekend.

The NMU women’s hoops team hosts Minnesota State-Mankato this afternoon at 1:00.

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team has introduced four new players for next season. Claire Barghahn is a forward from White Lake, Michigan. Sara Dax is a front court player from Kewaunee, Wisconsin. Katelyn Meister is a shooting guard from Wisconsin Dells. Kylie Mogen is a forward from Menomonie, Wisconsin. The Tech men’s basketball team has added one new player. Tyler Robarge is a center from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings’ four-game winning streak ended with a 2-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators last night. Michael Rasmussen scored Detroit’s only goal. Jimmy Howard made 34 saves. Detroit had two penalty shots against Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson in the third period, but Anderson stopped both of them. The Wings visit the New Jersey Devils tomorrow afternoon. Pregame coverage begins at 12:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons will entertain the Cleveland Cavaliers Monday night.

NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Seattle Seahawks scored a touchdown with five minutes remaining in the game, and came from behind to edge the Green Bay Packers 27-24 last night. Aaron Rodgers passed for 332 yards and two touchdowns, but the Green Bay ground game was held to less than 50 yards.

The Detroit Lions host the Carolina Panthers in a 1:00 game on Sunday. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich has been named the National League’s Most Valuable Player. In his first season in Milwaukee, Yelich led the league with a .326 batting average, and 110 runs batted in. His 36 home runs were two short of the league lead. Yelich garnered 29 f the 30 first-place votes. Boston’s Mookie Betts was voted the American League MVP.
