GLIAC

The MTU volleyball team defeated Grand Valley State University 3-1 (25-16, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20) last night. MacAulay Petersen had 20 kills, and Megan Utlak recorded 22 digs.

The Huskies advance to the semifinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament. They’ll face Northern Michigan University Saturday at Ferris State University in Big Rapids. The Wildcats upset third-seed Saginaw Valley State University last night.

The host Bulldogs will play Wayne State University in the other semifinal.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight. Because of NFL football, coverage will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3.

Former Red Wings coach Mike Babcock has been fired as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Babcock celebrated his 700th NHL coaching win two weeks ago, but his team hadn’t won in six games since then. Sheldon Keefe will replace him.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons fell behind early, and lost their fifth straight game last night, 109-89 to the Chicago Bulls. The injury-riddled Detroiters started the game without Tony Snell, who’s out with a hip injury. They lost Markieff Morris to a thigh injury in the first half.

The Pistons host the Atlanta Hawks tomorrow. Coverage starts at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL

In tonight’s NFL contest, the Indianapolis Colts visit the Houston Texans. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers have added six prospects to their 40-man roster. They include former first-round picks Beau Burrows and Derek Hill… along with Isaac Paredes, Daz Cameron, Kyle Funkhouser and Anthony Castro. The move protects them from being selected by other teams in the upcoming Rule Five draft. Detroit left one slot on the 40-man roster open, which they could fill with a Rule Five selection.

Our high school hockey coverage begins tomorrow, when Jeffers entertains Cheboygan. Coverage will start at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

The Finlandia women’s hockey team entertains Saint Norbert College Saturday afternoon. Coverage will start at 3:55 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.
