Tech Volleyball Falls to NMU – Thursday Sports Wrap

High School

The regular high school volleyball season wraps up tonight…

  • Lake Linden-Hubbell plays at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City in the annual Torch Lake Trophy match.
  • Chassell travels to Watersmeet
  • Baraga visits Ewen-Trout Creek.
  • L’Anse hosts Ontonagon.

Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Schools Athletics will host a Fall Festival in the school gym tomorrow between 5 and 7. Enjoy carnival-style activities such as Plinko, a duck pond, balloon darts, a clothespin drop, a basketball shoot, baseball bowling, face painting, and more. Activity tickets are just 25¢, or five for $1.00, and money raised will support the athletic program.

College Volleyball

The Michigan Tech volleyball team fell 3-2 (25-19, 15-25, 20-25, 25-17, 18-20) to Northern Michigan last night. Meg Raabe had 21 kills for the Huskies, and Rachel Zurek added 14. Tess Hayes recorded 52 assists.

NHL

The Red Wings dropped a 6-2 decision to the Jets last night. Winnipeg jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead. Tallies by Dylan Larkin andAlex De Brincat narrowed the gap, but the Jets scored the final three goals to put the game away. Alex Lyon made 23 saves, and took the loss.

The Wings have lost three straight, and host the Sabers Saturday. Coverage will start at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons earned their first win of the season last night, 105-95 over the 76ers. Jaden Ivey scored 23 points, Cade Cunningham added 22, and Tobias Harris grabbed 14 rebounds.

The Pistons entertain the Knicks Friday. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the champions of baseball. L-A overcame an early five-run deficit to edge the Yankees 7-6 last night, giving them a 4-1 victory in the World Series. Freddie Freeman, whose walk-off grand slam gave the Dodgers the victory in game one, was named the series’ Most Valuable Player.

NFL

In tonight’s NFL game, the Texans visit the Jets. Coverage will begin at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.

With their first meeting of the season coming up Sunday, the quarterbacks of the Lions and Packers both missed practice yesterday. Green Bay’s Jordan Love is nursing a groin injury suffered last Sunday, but says there’s a chance he’ll be ready for the game.  Detroit’s Jared Goff rolled an ankle in Sunday’s game, and will likely return to practice today.
