MTU
The Michigan Tech volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament last night with a 3-0 win (25-15, 25-23, 25-23) over Grand Valley State University. Olivia Ghormley led the Huskies with 17 kills, and Anna Jonynas recorded 19 digs. Tech will face Davenport University tomorrow at 5:30 in the semifinals at Ferris State University. The sixth-seeded Panthers upset third-seeded Ashland University last night. MTU is seeded second in the tournament. Top-seed Ferris will take on fourth-seed Saginaw Valley State University in the other semifinal.
Finlandia
Seventeen Finlandia University student-athletes have been honored by the American Collegiate Athletic Association.
In volleyball, Jessie Diaz was named to the all-conference first team, Nicole and Shannon Anderson were placed on the second team, and Marina Dalton was an honorable mention.
In women’s soccer, Alexia Gonzales, Daisia Knowles and Kirsten L’Esperance were named to the all-conference first team. Hancock’s Molly Berg made the second team, and Addie Budzinski, Haley Makela and Rylie Steele were honorable mentions.
In men’s soccer, Zach Wichman was placed on the all-conference second team. Noah Raisanen was an honorable mention, and was also named Freshman of the Year.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons broke their five-game losing streak with a 103-96 victory over the Orlando Magic last night. Andre Drummond led Detroit with 23 points and 19 rebounds, as the Pistons overcame an 11-point deficit late in the third quarter. The Pistons visit the Atlanta Hawks tomorrow night.

The Detroit Red Wings entertain the New York Rangers tomorrow. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

Ski/Gear Swap
The Copper Country Ski Tigers will hold their annual ski and gear swap at the Houghton High School multi-purpose room Saturday. Buy and sell outdoor gear – cross country skis, snow bikes, bikes, camping gear, outdoor clothing, or any other item for the silent sports enthusiast.
Drop off items to be sold either tomorrow from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, or Saturday between 8:30 and 9:45 am. The sale begins at 10:00 am on Saturday, and ends at noon. Pick up unsold items and/or checks for sold equipment from 12:30 to 1:30 pm on Saturday. There is a 15 percent commission, with a $75.00 maximum, charged on all items sold.
All proceeds are used to support the Copper Country Ski Tigers racing team, which has won the state championship for the past six years.
The Ski Tigers will also wax your skis in preparation for winter for a nominal fee.
