Tech Soccer Blanks SVSU – Friday Sports Wrap

In the final night of action in the high school volleyball regular season last night…
– Ontonagon got past L’Anse 3-2.
– At a triangular at Lake Linden-Hubbell, Dollar Bay defeated Ewen-Trout Creek 2-0. The host Lakes beat the Panthers 3-0, and the Bays 2-0.
– Baraga v Chassell – NR.

Alexis Rowe from Calumet was named the WestPAC Volleyball Player of the Year yesterday, and Copper Kings’ coach Lisa Twardzik was named Coach of the Year. Calumet and Houghton finished the season tied for first place in the standings. You can see the full roster here.

– Calumet travels way downstate to Harrison. The Copper Kings finished the season at 6-3. The Hawks lost only once… and that was by one point. Our pregame coverage begins at 12:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

MTU Soccer Blanks Cardinals
The Michigan Tech soccer team earned a big 2-0 victory at Saginaw Valley State yesterday. Annie Dahlquist and Madeline Faust scored for Tech. The win moved the Huskies past the Cardinals into third place in the GLIAC. The Huskies wrap up their regular season at Northwood tomorrow. They’ll open the conference tournament at home next Tuesday.

The MTU hockey team hosts the University of Michigan tonight and tomorrow night. For Coach Mel Pearson and the Huskies, it’s more than just another home opener… [PEARSON]. Pearson was an assistant coach for the Wolverines for 23 seasons before returning to Tech as head coach three years ago. Faceoffs are at 7:07 each evening at Macinnes Arena.

The Tech football team takes its final road trip of the season, and plays at Tiffin tomorrow. Coach Tom Kearly says the Huskies will need to shut down Dragons’ quarterback Antonio Pipkin… [KEARLY].

The Huskies’ volleyball team entertains Saginaw Valley State tonight at 5:00, and hosts Wayne State tomorrow at 3:00.

NMU Athletics LogoThe Northern Michigan University hockey team entertains Alabama-Huntsville tonight and tomorrow night.

The NMU football team hosts Walsh tomorrow afternoon.

Finlandia LionsFinlandia
Both Finlandia University hockey teams open their seasons this weekend. The women’s team plays at Concordia-Wisconsin tonight and tomorrow afternoon. The men’s team plays at Wisconsin-Stevens Point tomorrow night.

The Lions’ women’s soccer team closes its regular season with games at Lawrence University tomorrow afternoon, and Illinois Tech on Sunday.

NHL – Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings host the Kings tonight. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA – Pistons
The Detroit Pistons fell behind the Timberwolves by 19 points early in the second half last night. They came back to tie the game, but wound up losing 97-91. Caron Butler led the late charge with 24 points in the final 18 minutes. The Pistons host the Nets tomorrow night.

NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Saints shut down the Panthers 28-10.

Both the Lions and the Packers have this week off.
