Tech, Northern Men’s Hoops Earn Wins at GLIAC/GLVC Crossover – Monday Sports Wrap

High School

The Calumet High School volleyball team heads downstate today, as they continue their pursuit of a state title. With the prospect of hotel stays, meals and other expenses, the athletic department is asking for the community’s help to cover the cost. You can donate at their GoFundMe site here, or make a direct contribution at the school.

Calumet will face McBain in the quarterfinals tomorrow night at Gaylord. Coverage will begin at 5:20 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.

College Basketball

The men’s GLIAC/GLVC Crossover wrapped up at the SDC yesterday. Tech defeated McKendree University 77-67. Freshman Dan Gherezgher scored 27 points for the Huskies.

Northern stopped Lewis 73-60 yesterday.

The Finlandia men’s team lost 89-75 at Northland yesterday. Ilrick Higgins-Moise paced the Lions with 19 points.

NHL

The Red Wings visit the Ducks tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 9:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Pistons play at Toronto tonight.

• Jamal Williams’ one-yard plunge capped a late 91-yard drive, and gave the Lions a 31-30 comeback victory over the Bears yesterday. Chicago led by 14 heading into the fourth quarter, but Detroit scored three times in the final stanza, including a 20-yard interception return by Jeff Okudah.
• Mason Crosby’s 28-yard field goal in overtime lifted the Packers to a 31-28 come-from-behind win over the Cowboys. Aaron Rodgers connected with Christian Watson for three touchdown passes, including two in the fourth quarter.
• In last night’s contest, the 49ers defeated the Chargers 22-16.
